Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP)
Get Free help from HICAP offices throughout California with Medicare claims, appeals, denials or delays of service or treatment. You can receive unbiased advice about HMOs, Medicare supplements, long term care insurance, and much more.

Health Services Advisory Group (HSAG)

Ombudsman Resource Center

Older Adult and Family Center
Multilingual and multicultural staff offers a free program to help caregivers develop skills to cope with the challenges associated with caregiving. Offered throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Services provided in English, Spanish, Cantonese, and Mandarin.

Program to aid in the safe return of a person with dementia who has wandered.

PhotoZig, Inc.
iCare Project

Photozig, Inc. seeks caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease or other type of dementia to participate in the evaluation of a new stress management skills training program (iCare), funded by the National Institute on Aging, and designed to help to enhance caregivers’ skills to deal with demanding tasks of caregiving (ultimately leading to alleviate stress and improve quality of life).

iCare is a DVD/online video training that build skills and stimulate practice, which may encourage training participation, enable user interaction, and promote better assimilation of concepts.

Qualified participants will test the new training program at no charge, and there will be additional monetary compensation ($50) for participation. We will ask participants to provide their opinion on the DVD, web site and workbook in a single meeting with us (about 1.5-2 hour). We expect to mail the materials to participants in September 2010, and have meetings in October 2010.

Foreclosure Information

1. Families should call or check the web site of the bank where they have their mortgage. Most sites offer information about avoiding foreclosures and how to do so.
2. Another good resource is the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, at www.hud.gov; search for “Avoiding Foreclosures”. Or families can also call 1-202-708-1112 for the address of a HUD office nearest to where they live.
3. Another resource is www.housingeducation.org/edi/foreclosure; search for “early delinquency intervention”.  Families can also call and schedule a counseling session to review their options at 1-800-777-7526
