The Alzheimer’s Association-Western Carolina Chapter and the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services are responsible for delivering the services of Project C.A.R.E. (Caregiver Alternatives to Running on Empty), a national award-winning program of consumer-directed respite care specifically designed for dementia caregivers. The goal of the program is to increase quality, access, choice and use of respite and support services to rural and minority families caring for a person with dementia at home or within a hospital setting. Project C.A.R.E, currently services fourteen western and Piedmont counties.
