WHAT IS A COMMUNITY EVENT?

Community events are fundraisers that benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.  They are coordinated and executed by individuals or organizations independent from the Alzheimer’s Association. Money raised supports the programs and services offered in the Western Carolina Chapter and ultimately contributes funds to prevent and cure Alzheimer’s Disease.

THE SKY’S THE LIMIT WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR EVENT

Community events help increase awareness of Alzheimer’s disease by remembering, honoring and cherishing those affected.  We encourage you to dedicate your event to individuals who are close to your heart and to celebrate the memories you’ve experienced with them over the years.

JUST A FEW UNIQUE “OUT OF THE BOX” EVENT IDEAS:

  • Host a memorial pancake/waffle breakfast
Looking for a distinctive way to host a party at your house?  Hosting a pancake or waffle breakfast is a great way to get together with friends for a fun weekday or weekend morning event.
  • Host a memorial cocktail party
Ever heard of a purple martini?  Neither have we, but who’s to say it doesn’t exist.  Engage friends with a fun cocktail party while raising money to find a cure. Dedicating your party to a loved one also gives your party a purpose. Make it fun by asking everyone to wear purple!
  • Host a memorial potluck dinner
Have your friends or family lost a loved one to Alzheimer’s disease?  Host a potluck dinner, and ask people to bring a dish that reminds them of that person.  Perhaps it’s barbecue chicken you cooked on Sundays, or the ice cream you both ate growing up as children.  Ask people to write a short note and include a photo next to their dish, describing the meaning behind it.
  • Host a memorial sports event with friends and colleagues
Was playing golf a favorite pastime of someone you’ve lost to Alzheimer’s disease?  Gather your friends in a memorial golf tournament at your local country club.  See if you can get your green fees reduced or donated while charging your friends the regular green fee.  Explain that you have a goal of $2,500 to help find a cure for a disease that took away your friend’s ability to play the game.
  • Host a memorial mini-walk in your neighborhood
Walk with us toward a world without Alzheimer’s!  The Alzheimer’s Association has raised millions of dollars through the infamous Memory Walk, our signature fundraising event.  Why not host a walk in your own neighborhood?  Explain to your neighbors the meaning behind the walk and share your fundraising goal.

NO EVENT IS TOO BIG OR TOO SMALL

Whatever the event, the Alzheimer’s Association is honored to benefit from your efforts. We will assist you in any way possible to make your event a success!  Whether your event is a small get-together with friends or a large party, our staff will help you celebrate the goal of ending Alzheimer’s.

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?

All revenue benefits the work of the Alzheimer’s Association.  Of every dollar raised, 69 percent benefits local programs and services offered by the Western Carolina Chapter, 14 percent is dedicated to research and 17 percent covers local administration costs.

IS THERE A MINIMUM DONATION AMOUNT?

No donation is too small. We appreciate your efforts and welcome any monetary amount towards the support of our programs and our efforts to conquer this debilitating disease.
