The annual Caregiver Seminars are one of the Alzheimer's Association's most enlightening and enjoyable ways of helping both family and professional caregivers better understand the characteristics of dementia how to care for the people who have it.
Each year, the Education Department schedules one of the nation's foremost experts in the area of dementia care to present a day-long or half-day seminar on caring for people with dementia. The Chapter is pleased to announce that Melanie Bunn will give a half day presentation at the Waco Caregiver Seminar on November 8th and will give a full day presentation at the Fort Worth Caregiver Seminar on November 9. Ms. Bunn will return to Texas in February 2013, to speak in Wichita Falls and Abilene.

The session will start at 1 pm and run to 5 pm. This program is presented at NO COST to family caregivers. Professional cost is $35 and includes three (3) hours of continuing education credit for 1 discipline. Cost for other professionals, who don't need CEU's is $20. Disciplines approved are: Social Workers, Acitivity Directors, Nurses, Assisted Living Administrators, and Long-Term Care Administrators. All attendees need to register for this event.
About the Speaker
Melanie Bunn, RN, MS, GNP, has been consulting with the Alzheimer's Association, Eastern North Carolina chapter for 20 years. She has provided primary care to older people in a variety of settings including retirement homes, long term care nursing, assisted living facilities, hospitals, and in the home in positions including gerontological nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist and staff nurse. She received a B.S. in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a M.S. in Family Health Nursing with a Clinical Concentration in Geriatrics from Clemson University, and completed her post master's experience in the Gerontological Nurse Practitioner Program at Duke University School of Nursing. A dynamic lecturer and skillful clinician in the areas of gerontological nursing and Alzheimer's disease, Melanie presents over 150 sessions each year at local, statewide, and national conferences and meetings with interactive presentations using learner centered educational strategies.
