Loving Kindness for your Caregiver Self

Caregivers of loved ones with dementia are unique and often struggle with knowing how to cope with the runaway feelings they encounter during their caregiving journey.  This seminar introduces ways to practice kindness and understanding to themselves, as they do towards those in their care.

About the Speakers

Susan Gross, M.A., LPC Intern
Susan Gross graduated from Midwestern State University in 2012 with a master's degree in clinical psychology and counseling and is currently earning hours towards her professional counselor license.  Dementia research results, compiled during her graduate program, were published in Dementia International in August 2013.  Ms. Gross works for the Alzheimer’s Association - North Central Texas Chapter, Wichita Falls Office, as Education and Family Care Specialist.  Her return to school in 2008 was motivated by her goal to assist family caregivers facing the daunting task of caring for elderly loved ones.  She now accomplishes this through community education and care consultation with the Alzheimer’s Association.

Howard Gruetzner, MEd, LPC
Howard Gruetzner is a licensed professional counselor and is currently Education and Family Care Specialist with the Alzheimer’s Association - North Central Texas Chapter, where he counsels individuals with dementia and their caregivers.  Mr. Gruetzner has over 30 years of clinical experience in dementia care and geriatric mental health with focus of family caregivers.  He is author of Alzheimer’s: A Caregiver’s Guide and Sourcebook and provides education and training for family and professional caregivers.

Cost for health professionals is $35 and includes CEUs for 1 discipline. For other professionals not needing CEU's, the cost is $20. Approved CEUs include: Social Work, Activity Professionals, Nurses, Assisted Living Administration, Long-Term Care Administration and LPC's. There is a $20 suggested donation for family caregivers.

Sponsorship opportunities are available.  For more information on becoming a sponsor in Wichita Falls, please call Patty Taylor at 940-767-8800.
