The Alzheimer's Association is pleased that Dr. Carl Trusler and wife, Dr. Jaynne Middleton, will serve as honorary co-chairs for 2013 Steppin’ Out for Memories Dinner, Dance and Auction.
“We are all acutely aware of the significant challenges that Alzheimer's disease brings. The two of us, like many of you, have been personally affected by Alzheimer's disease. Jaynne's mother had a progressively severe dementia during the last years of her life, and Carl has a number of patients with dementia, not to mention the families in his practice who are caregivers. We are happy to have been asked by the Alzheimer’s Association to be honorary co-chairs of the "Steppin' Out for Memories" dinner, dance and auction. We hope you will join us on Saturday, April 6, in the Display Building at the Taylor County Expo Center for an evening of western casual fun."
Drs. Trusler and Middleton are priviledged to honor centenarian, Dr. Virginia Boyd Connally, who was the first female physician in Taylor County. Dr. Connally is a retired ophthalmologist and otolaryngologist and is the embodiment of a lifelong learner and encourager. Connally was a trailblazer in medicine, paving the way for many women after her. She was the first female chief of staff at Hendrick Medical Center, the first chairwoman of the staff at the former St. Ann Hospital in Abilene, and the first woman president of the Taylor-Jones-Haskell-Callahan County Medical Society. Besides practicing medicine in Abilene for 42 years, Connally traveled the world on many medical missions. Her many honors include the Pioneer in Medicine Award from the TJHC County Medical Society, the Special Friend Award from the University of Texas School of Nursing Advisory Council, the Pathfinder Award from the Abilene Reporter-News and the YWCA, and the Abilene Woman's Club Legacy Award.
