| Available Caregiver Resources and Assistance One of the challenges of caring for a loved one with dementia is connecting with resources and services. People often say, “I wish I had known about you when I needed you.” This workshop is designed to give family caregivers an opportunity to learn about these resources and services and how to navigate through the maze. The program will also provide coping strategies for caregivers, making their role more manageable and ultimately improving care given to the person with dementia. |

| Creative Solutions: Tips to Manage Challenging Behaviors Alzheimer’s and related dementias can cause a person to act in strange and unpredictable ways. This program will explore difficult symptoms such as anger, agitation, hallucinations and paranoia that prevent caregivers from helping the person with dementia. Participants will learn strategies for assessing needs of the person with Alzheimer’s and strategies for assuring positive interactions. |
| Grace Under Fire – Practical Tips for Caregiver Stress Many people who care for a loved one with dementia lose themselves in the caregiver role. Caregivers may neglect their own physical, mental and emotional well-being, putting their own health at risk. The goal of this program is to enrich the life of the caregiver and person with dementia through an open discussion of the progression of the disease and how caregivers can adapt. The instructor will provide tools for reducing caregiver stress, improving communication with the person with dementia and coping strategies for the caregiver. |
| If It’s Dementia, What Do I Do? Physicians often give patients a diagnosis of dementia. Unfortunately, the physician does not clarify the difference in dementia and Alzheimer’s disease leaving the family to believe the dementia diagnosis is better, less serious. This workshop will discuss the definition of dementia and how it relates to Alzheimer’s disease. Other types of dementia will be identified and participants will explore the progression of dementia. The program will also provide family caregivers with ways to get a more definitive diagnosis and an understanding of how they can take care of loved ones and themselves. |
| Know the 10 Signs: Early Detection Matters If you or someone you know is experiencing memory loss or behavioral changes, it’s time to learn the facts. Early detection of Alzheimer’s disease gives you a chance to begin drug therapy, enroll in clinical studies and plan for the future. This interactive workshop features a discussion of the myths of aging and memory loss, signs of Alzheimer’s disease, as well as video clips of people with Alzheimer’s disease sharing their personal stories. |
| Looking Ahead: Planning for Future Legal and Financial Needs For individuals dealing with dementia, advanced planning means peace of mind. This workshop features local legal and financial professionals discussing specific documents and planning tools that can protect families as dementia progresses. An explanation of specific legal documents, advanced planning tools and financial challenges will be provided. |
| Making the Change: Moving a Relative with Memory Loss Moving a loved one with memory loss may be the single greatest challenge of caring for a person with dementia. The emotions of the patient and caregiver are often strained, and conflict can arise. This workshop will help participants identify housing and service options, provide tools for assessing a person’s ability to live at home and identify strategies for a smooth transition. |

Memory Loss: What's Normal, What's Not Approximately 5.4 million people in the US are currently living with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. However, many people live in fear of memory loss that is not related to dementia. This workshop will differentiate between memory loss, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. The discussion will include the warning signs and symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, accurate diagnosis and proper treatment. Resources available through the Alzheimer’s Association will also be provided. |
