Below is a listing of education programs offered by the Alzheimer's Association, Northwest Ohio Chapter. All programs are offered free of charge unless otherwise noted. ABC's: An Overview of Dementia

"An Afternoon Out" group in Mansfield area
A new "afternoon out" group for socialization and fun is starting up in Mansfieldfor individuals with memory loss and ther familiy, friends and guests. If there is interest,this will become a monthly afternoon out with plans to match the participants' interests (such as socializing, reminiscing, other activities). Anticipatory Grief: Understanding Past, Present and Future Losses
This program will help caregivers who are considering moving someone into a care facility in addition to those who have placed a family member or friend in a care facility, or who are currently caring for someone with a progressie illness to: understand anticipatory grief, acknowledge the many losses associated with chronic illness, improve communication and more. This program is hosted by Hospice of Northwest Ohioand the Alzheimer's Association, Northwest Ohio Chapter. Advance registration is requested. "Complaints of a Dutiful Daughter" Film Viewing and Discussion
Families dealing with dementia and related behavioral symptoms, or considering long-term care placement, will want to see this film, documenting a mother's Alzheimer's disease and her daughter's response to the changes in her mother. "Complaints of a Dutiful Daughter" is an authentic chronicle. It is informative, entertaining, and presented with profound insight and a healthy dose of humor. A discussion will follow the film. Early Stage Memory Loss Series
This workshop will provide support and information for persons experiencing mild memory loss from Alzheimer's disease or a related disorder. Persons who are experiencing forgetfulness, confusion or difficulty in finding the right words are most likely to benefit from this program and are encouraged to invite one or more guests to attend with him or her. Participants are requested to pre-register at 1-800-272-3900.

Maintain Your Brain
Increasing evidence show that healthy lifestyle habits, such as being heart smart, being physically and mentally active, eating a healthy diet and staying socially involved, contribute to healthy aging and may decrease risk for Alzheimer's disease. This workshop will focus on simple lifestyle modifications which may have an impact on the individual's health. Memory and Aging: What's Normal, What's Not
If you would like to learn more, or are concerned about your own or someone else's memory, this program will interest you. We will explore forgetfulness and  "memory lapses," with examples of memory changes that are part of the normal aging process and memory changes that are not. Factors that can affect memory, treatable causes of memory loss and techniques to maintain and improve memories will also be discussed. "Rx for Caregivers: Take Care of Yourself" Film and Discussion
Filmed in front of a live audience of caregivers, this film features a discussion led by a dynamic therapist and author, and is packed with humor and stories from real life. Topics include experiences of knowing how to recognize and deal with feelings of caregiver guilt and grief, sadness, anger and resentment, exploring how much and how little to help, and realizing what is possible and what is not. Understanding Memory Loss: A Series for Caregivers
This series will focus on issues relevant to families and individuals new to Alzheimer's disease or who are looking for additional information. Topics will include symptoms, diagnosis, risk factors, behaviors, personality changes, medications, home and facility care, and options for in-home care.
