Faith Based Community Support Program
Alzheimer’s disease is an isolating experience – for all involved. Those affected often feel cut off from their faith communities at the very time when they most need support. In order to meet this need, the Interfaith Committee of the Alzheimer’s Association of Orange County has developed the Faith Based Community Support Program to assist faith communities in the support for individuals with memory impairment and their families. In addition, the Program is dedicated to providing public awareness, education and support to Orange County's faith-based communities regarding Alzheimer's disease, related dementias and promoting brain health.
The Faith Based Community Support Program provides the tools, guidance and support to faith based organizations interested in hosting education programs and developing support programs for their members in the following ways:
Host an educational event for members of your faith community to increase awareness about memory problems and the support available. The following topics have been popular in the community: Know the 10 Signs: Early Detection Matters; Healthy Aging: A New Way of Thinking; and Partnering with Your Doctor; are only a few that are available.
Join the Faith-Based Liaison Program. Become a volunteer with the Alzheimer's Association and be a valuable link between your faith community and the Alzheimer's Association for services and 24/7 support.
Offer faith-based services in your house of worship for persons with Alzheimer's disease or related dementias and their families. A special Alzheimer service at your congregation can awaken this spiritual connection for individuals with Alzheimer's in your community. The Alzheimer's Association offers tool kits; training and support to help you successfully support your community.

Schedule of Religious Services
The familiar surroundings and rituals associated with spiritual experiences can act as the some of the most powerful triggers to one’s memory. The stained glass, prayer shawls, candles, and other religious symbols serve as a recognizable reminder of what is a large part of many people’s lives. Are you a family caregiver of someone with Alzheimer's disease or a professional caregiver, caring for individuals with dementia? Individuals of all faiths are invited to join us for a special Alzheimer's service.
Alzheimer's disease and other memory disorders slowly deplete the emotional strength of everyone affected. It also impacts an individual's spiritual strength. As the disease continues to test our faith, we look for ways to find peace. Staying connected to our spiritual selves can help conquer the fear and anxiety created by the disease. We invite anyone interested to join us for these services, whether the individual lives at home or in a care center.
