2009 Memory Walk winners will be announced soon!

Georgie Award

The Georgie Award is in memory of George Nazarian, a local resident who died of Alzheimer’s disease several years ago. It is awarded each year to an outstanding Central Oregon caregiver, either professional or family. The winner is presented with a beautiful polymer clock.

Purple Sneaker Award

The traveling Purple Sneaker Trophy is awarded to the retirement/care community whose staff/residents raise the most money in celebration of Memory Walk 2009.

Competition for the traveling Purple Sneaker Trophy is intended to create more public awareness of Alzheimer’s disease in the community, involve more people in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease, and support the programs and services of the Central Oregon Chapter.

Retirement/care communities competing for the Purple Sneaker Trophy may choose to have a special family night, a penny jar, or other fun events to raise funds. Donation cans are now available from the Central Oregon office. Contact Carol Norton at 548-7074 or at carol.norton@alz.org. This is a fun competition to raise money for an excellent cause that affects our greater community.

Top Dog Award

The Top Dog Prize will be awarded to the handler whose dog raises the most money for Memory Walk.

Starbuck Award

The Starbuck Award is a traveling engraved plaque awarded to the top fundraising dog(s) and individual handler for Memory Walk in Central Oregon. Entire teams are not eligible; however, individual handler/dog(s) raising money on any team or walking independently are eligible.

The Starbuck Award was established by Sue and Gary Dolezal in honor of their wonderful dog Starbuck, who visited many people with Alzheimer’s before his death, and in recognition of their commitment to the Alzheimer’s cause and Memory Walk participation.
