The Alzheimer's Association 17th Annual Public Policy Forum in Washington, D.C., April 30-May 3, 2005, was a great success! Each plenary session, workshop and presentation brought new hope in our fight against Alzheimer's disease.

On May 2, attendees gathered on the stops of the Lincoln Memorial for the 12th Annual Candlelight Vigil to honor those with Alzheimer's and their caregivers. Award-winning country singer Tracy Lawrence performed during the vigil and many people spoke about their experience.

While Alzheimer advocates closed the Public Policy Forum by speaking to their elected officials on Capitol Hill, a team of Association representatives testified May 3 at a Congressional Alzheimer's Task Force Briefing. National Board Member David Hyde Pierce and Alzheimer's Association Medical and Scientific Advisory Council vice chair Samuel E. Gandy, M.D., Ph.D., discussed how a major investment in Alzheimer research now would save billions in Medicare, Medicaid and other future health care expenditures.
