Candlelight vigil
The candlelight vigil provided a unique opportunity to honor loved ones and those who provide care for them. Emceed by Pamela Brown, Alzheimer advocates James Smith and Marilynn Garzione shared their personal experiences with the disease. Entertainment was provided by Ken Johnson.

9 p.m.

Opening reception
Light refreshments where advocates greet old friends and make new ones.

Dinner and keynote address
Keynote speaker Mike McCurry, former White House Press Secretary and veteran of multiple national elections, shared his views on the 2008 Presidential election and gave tips on meeting our goal of making Alzheimer's disease a national priority.

During the dinner, Judy Buchanan from the Association’s Greater Illinois Chapter was presented with the 7th Annual Maureen Reagan Outstanding Advocate Award.

In recognition of Maureen Reagan’s exceptional contributions to advocacy and to honor her legacy, the Maureen Reagan Outstanding Advocate Award is presented annually to an extraordinary advocate from an Alzheimer’s Association chapter. The 2008 nominees included:

Capitol Hill kickoff breakfast and closing program

9-5 p.m.

Congressional visits
Over 600 advocates met with their members of Congress carrying with them over 6,000 virtual visits. You can view more photos of advocates in action on our Photo Gallery.

1-5 p.m.

Hospitality suite
Advocates returned from Congressional visits to share their experiences with staff and fellow advocates before returning home to continue the work at the local level.
