Incorporated in March, 1989, the Chapter operated as an all-volunteer group for over a year. Then the Board began to hire staff so it could grow the organization. An Administrative Assistant, then an Executive Director, followed by a Program Coordinator, and a Development Director started to increase the services the Chapter could offer.

Support and education for families has always been the priority of the Rhode Island Chapter. Our training programs for long term care professionals help accomplish this priority, because comfort and peace of mind can come when families know their loved one is with knowledgeable/compassionate health care personnel. Advocacy at both Federal and State levels has made us partners with all other long term care advocates.

In order to provide all these services, fundraising has become an integral part of making our Mission possible. You have participated in the growth of the Rhode Island Alzheimer’s Association. Perhaps you join us for a Memory Walk in the Fall or an Auction in early Spring or our annual Golf Tournament or various other events. Maybe you have used our resources, called our Helpline, or participated in an education program. Early stage activities have enriched some of your lives, and our lives at the Chapter have been enriched by the ways you have volunteered and contributed to our development.
