At the Alzheimer's Association we understand that:
Art is a tool.
Art helps with expression.
Art helps facilitate communication.
Art is known to have therapeutic value.
Art can elicit memories and feelings, both happy and sad.
The Meet Me at the MAG program provides a day of stimulation through meaningful conversation by the individual with dementia and their care partner. Those with dementia will engage with trained docents at the Memorial Art Gallery to share memories triggered by the paintings as well as thoughts and feelings the paintings bring forth. The Alzheimer's Association, along with the Memorial Art Gallery provides participants a positive experience through the exploration of art. For some care partners the Meet Me at the MAG program may be the first step they have taken to utilize outside support networks to help their loved one with dementia. Ideally, after participating in the interactive tour, care partners will consider new ways of engaging with their loved one and better understand what approaches and environments are well-suited to those with dementia. Furthermore, the care partner will be afforded the opportunity to expand their social network through relationships established at the MAG.
