Volunteers make a difference.

The Alzheimer's Association San Diego/Imperial Chapter counts on the support of more than 500 volunteers each year. Together, we are all working to support our friends and neighbors and to create a world without Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia.

Chapter volunteers receive orientation, training, and ongoing information sessions. To sign on as an Alzheimer's Association volunteer, start by filling out our online volunteer application. You can also email our Volunteer Manager, David Weinberg at dweinberg@alz.org or reach him by phone at 858.966.3316, or toll free at 1.800.272.3900.

Here are some of the ways you can Volunteer:

"The amount of time you put in is up to you - whether it be 10 minutes a day, or every other day, or an hour a day for a couple months - it's just getting the word out to the community that this disease is a problem that we all need to start fighting. Anything helps."

Walk to End Alzheimer's
Walk 2012 was a huge success in big part to our amazing volunteers. Get involved early and help us start preparing for Walk 2013!

Help at Chapter offices
Assist with mailings, data entry, or general office tasks. Our staff is lean compared to the services we work to provide, so your help is always gratefully appreciated.

Advocate
Help shape laws at the federal, state, or local level by communicating the Association's position to legislators and educating them about Alzheimer-related issues. Association advocates have helped raise government funds for Alzheimer research and improved access to long-term care for persons in their communities.

Be an Artist-in-Residence Teacher's Assistant for a Memories in the Making Program
The Memories in the Making art program provides an opportunity for those with Alzheimer's to recall important experiences and express themselves through art when they may have lost the ability to do so verbally. If you have experience in art and an aptitude to work with individuals with dementia, you can facilitate a magical process each week. Programs are located throughout the community.

Help with a Special Event
Each year, volunteers raise significant financial support for programs and services through special events. Whether you serve as a member of the host committee for our annual Memories in the Making Gala, or organize an event with your club or organization on our behalf, your contribution will help so many others.

Facilitate a Support Group
Our support groups throughout the community are led by trained volunteer facilitators. If you have experience as a  facilitator with an extensive Alzheimer's disease background and education, you can help provide compassionate support to those coping with caregiving. Support groups meet typically once each month.

Get involved in a Chapter committee
If you have a professional background in health care, social services, marketing, public relations, or accounting, your expertise can enhance the quality of our chapter programs and services. You can help develop and/or implement events and programs such as public awareness campaigns, speakers bureaus, Helpline, support groups, and education and training programs.
