Memories in the Making Art Auction  - A Huge Success!

$9,500…do I hear $10,000? $10,000 in the back of the room! Going once…going twice…sold for $10,000 to the lovely lady in the back of the room! –Live Art Graffti Piece created during the event by Jose Vengas of Writerzblok and world famous Graffiti artist Chor Boogie.

This was just one of the incredible moments that made up the 18th annual Memories in the Making Art Auction.  More than 300 guests enjoyed a fun and fabulous art pop evening set at the Fairbanks Ranch Country Club on March 6th 2015. Art featured in the silent and live auctions was created by individuals with dementia through the Alzheimer’s Association Memories in the Making Art program and local professional artists who felt inspired to create a complimentary pairing piece.

We are thrilled to report that every piece of art was sold and the event raised nearly $200,000 to support families and advance research for a cure.  The room was filled with laughter as Auctioneer, Clint Bell and Emcee Kristen Cusato from KUSI News lead us through an exciting and fast-paced live auction.

Emotions ran deep when Doug Peterson bravely share his story about being diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s at the age of 59. Doug was joined by his wife Antonea and their four sons who could have not been more proud to be with there with him that night.

We would like to send a special thank you to our founding Chair, Darlene Shiley and all of our generous sponsors, professional artist and Memories in the Making Art teachers , would also like to recognize our two frame sponsors, Elizabeth and David Pace from FastFrame Carlsbad and Jeremy Dunaway from ArtWare who donated every beautiful frame. We encourage you to consider using them for your future framing needs.

Last but certainly not least, We would like to thank our fabulous committee who helped us make the event the best one to date! Bettina Hahn Osborne, Cree Scudder, Barbara Mulligan and Tammy Rooke you are truly incredible and we are so appreciative to have your involvement and support.

Memories in the Making® is a unique program offered by the Alzheimer’s Association for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia to express themselves through art. Through the creative process of painting, these individuals are able to communicate, offering us the essence of themselves. The art they produce is a tangible means of expression, which speaks to the families, the professional caregivers and to the public.

Thank you to our 2015 Framers

Please consider using one of our incredibly generous framers for your future framing projects.
