    Wills and trusts

Please remember the Alzheimer's Association, South Central Wisconsin Chapter in your will.

Many people are surprised to learn that the planned gifts they make to the Alzheimer's Association can often provide them with significant tax benefits. A bequest through your will or living trust is the simplest form of charitable estate planning.

Here is sample bequest language you can take to your attorney for inclusion in your will or living trust:

I give, devise and bequeath (insert amount of gift or percentage of estate, or residuary of estate) to the South Central Wisconsin Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, or its successor organization, located in Madison, Wisconsin to support activities in South Central Wisconsin. (Federal ID #39-1679333)

In recent years, our Chapter has received estate gifts from Lawrence C. Singer of Madison and Willis Goitowski of Mauston. We are deeply grateful to these individuals for leading the way in helping to ensure that help is always available to Alzheimer's families in South Central Wisconsin. The next time you review your estate plans, please consider remembering our Chapter.

Money received at the Chapter is used in our nine county area to help support families coping with Alzheimer's disease. Support may be in the form of support groups, direct assistance, maintenance of community resource information, advocacy, public policy activities, and educational and training services in the community.

    Charitable gift annuity

Although the Federal Reserve has been raising interest rates, savers are not yet seeing noticeable improvements in the rates of certificates of deposit. Investors seeking a higher guaranteed return of income may want to consider a charitable gift annuity.

A charitable gift annuity is an agreement between a donor and a charitable organization in which a donor transfers an asset (check, stock or bonds) to a charitable organization, such as the Alzheimer’s Association, and the charitable organization returns lifetime payments to the donor. The annuity can be set up over a period of one or two lifetimes – one of which is often the donor’s – at a percentage rate established at the start. Payments may be received as often as quarterly. Annuity payments are backed by all the assets of the Alzheimer’s Association so the donor can be confident that the Gift Annuity will provide income he/she can count on.

In addition, two tax benefits add value to the Gift Annuity.

    • You’ll receive a current income tax deduction – something you’ll appreciate when you file this year’s tax return
    • Part of each annuity payment the Alzheimer’s Association makes to a donor may be tax-free.

Upon the donor’s death, the Alzheimer’s Association uses the remaining gift assets to benefit the charitable purpose intended by the donor. A legacy of good work lives on in the community in the donor’s name.

To receive a personal CGA calculation, contact the Miriam Boegel, Development Director, at 608.232.3409 or 800.272.3900.

    Giving at your workplace

    Community Health Charities

The South Central Wisconsin Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association is supported in part by payroll giving campaigns. Payroll giving makes it easy to make a gift to the Alzheimer's Association.

Community Health Charities provides financial support to 36 member health agencies. Every year, approximately two million people in Wisconsin receive some type of assistance from Community Health Charities agencies.

The joint fundraising efforts of United Way and Community Health Charities start in September. There are two ways you can support the Alzheimer's Association through your workplace campaign.

    1. Check off the Alzheimer's Association, listed under Community Health Charities funded agencies. Or, on your United Way donor form, you can write in South Central Wisconsin Alzheimer's Association Chapter, Agency #324.
    2. You can also contribute to us through the United Way anywhere in the United States.
