“Managing Behaviors: Start With Yourself” Friday, March 13, 2009 Don’t miss this highly interactive, skill-building conference with Teepa Snow, MS, OTR/L, FAOTA. Always in demand, Teepa is returning to the Madison area after three years to share her expertise on thoughtful dementia care and education with direct-care professionals. Managing Behaviors: Start with Yourself: One of the most common concerns raised by caregivers and family members trying to help a person living with dementia is that the person “knows better” and “simply needs to behave themselves!” because behavior can change from one moment or day to the next and can be different with different people. This session is designed to help care providers and family members understand how their behavior, their words, and their reactions can be critical in helping the person with dementia have ‘better behavior’. Creative and Practical Tips to Get Through the Day: This session will encourage both the person with dementia and their care partner to learn more about themselves and each other so that the day goes better. We will explore personality traits, environmental and activity preferences, planning and organizational needs and desires, stress indicators, inducers, and reducers, and preferred routines and habit patterns for each person. One point of emphasis will be on the importance of helping the care partner and the person with dementia reach out to others so that each has options and support beyond the other person. A Certificate of Attendance will be provided for each participant. A registration brochure will be available in January - please let us know if you would like to be on the mailing list or watch here for your printable form (cost TBA).
