Start A Team

Forming a team for Memory Walk can enhance your experience and multiply your impact in the fight against Alzheimer's. Together, as a team you are a force much greater than what you can accomplish alone. Plus, when you team up, you can earn fun prizes that are only for teams. Team prizes include: a Team Captains' hat,Team Tent and more!
What is a team?
We're glad you asked. A team is a group of four or more registered walkers. A team can consist of: families, friends, co-workers, club or organization members an University, school groups and more! If you have questions on forming a team and getting started, give us a call. We would be happy to help!
Team Captain- Team Captains play an important role in Memory Walk. Primary responsibilities include forming and recruiting team members, acting as a liaison between team members and the Alzheimer's Association, setting team goals, and teaching team members how to fundraise. He or She informs team members of important dates and procedures and organizes the team on walk day. Team sizes vary from 4 walkers to 100 walkers, but the average team consists of 10 members. Our Memory Walk Staff will provide you with a Team Captain Kit that will give you all the tools to make your team a success!
Team Member - The Captain serves as the liaison for the team, but the members are just as important; helping to reach the team goal and help with team recruitment. To register yourself or a new member visit the registration page of your Walk of choice. Please be sure that your team captain has registered first and you know your team name.
Individual Participation
Individual walker- These are participants who are not on a team and have elected to become a fundraiser on their own.
Volunteer - A successful event could never happen without the help and support of many great and generous volunteers. If you would like to lend a helping hand for the Southeastern Virginia Chapter Memory Walks, please contact Dana Geiger at 757-459-2405 or email: dana.geiger@alz.org.
Much of the success of Memory Walk depends on hardworking volunteers. We are looking for volunteers to help in many different ways:
Pre-Walk Volunteers - Pre-Walk Volunteers help in getting the word out about Memory Walk to the public. This may include assisting with follow-up phone calls, preparing mailings or serving on one of the Memory Walk Planning Committees.
Walk Day Volunteers - Walk day volunteers help ensure the day runs smoothly for Memory Walk participants. This may include working at the walker check-in tent, food tent and/or water stops; assisting with entertainment, photography, T-shirt and sweatshirts distribution; route support, set-up and/or take-down of event day materials; or working as a greeter to welcome walkers or cheer on walkers as they cross the finish line.
Coporate Participation
Memory Walk Sponsor- Ask your company if they would like to join us in taking steps to end Alzheimer's. Local sponsorships provide marketing exposure to the area and contribute to the success of the event. By becoming an official Memory Walk Sponsor, your company will enhance its image while supporting its employees and the search for a cure for Alzheimer's disease. For more information on Corporate Sponsorship, please contact Patricia Bartosch at 757-459-2405 or email: patricia.bartosch@alz.org.
