On the streets of Newport News on any given day you may see an energetic redhed driving around town in a brand new Honda FIT. The car was donated by Peninsula Honda and the redhead - well that’s Rona Altschuler, the 2009 Memory Walk chair.
Rona is a lifelong resident of Newport News and is known not only as a really good neighbor, but also as a true citizen. A believer in giving back, she is doing just that. While Rona knows first hand what Alzheimers can do to a family, she is working to make Memory Walk a success for all the families going through this disease. Her goal is to raise awareness, but she’s raising much more in the process.
In a difficult economy, the Newport News Memory Walk seems to be defying the trend. With sponsor dollars at an all time high and fundraising not far behind, we ask, “How are you doing it?"
"People want to have fun and feel good doing it,” says Altschuler, who energizes all she comes in contact with.
From the new car raffle to the dynamic committee working with Altschuler, there is no question that the Newport News walk has a new energy and vibrance.
