The weather was a little cool but the spirits were high and everyone enjoyed the afternoon at the Iowa Lakes Memory Walk.  Entertainment was provided by the band Cornerstone.  There were over 160 individuals in attendance and over $22,000 was raised.  It was a tremendous team effort!

Top Individual Youth:  Andrew Christy from Spencer rasing $170.00

Top Team:  Team Jo from Estherville raising over $2,300.00

Thanks to all that attended the walk and supported us financially as well as emotionally. It was great to be at such a special event where the people that attended truly cared about each other and those with Alzheimer’s disease. We had three people that were walking for themselves and they all had great family support as well as support from others attending the walk.

Special thanks to our sponsors: Farmer’s Savings Bank, Iowa Lakes Electric, Farmer’s Trust Bank, Spencer Hospital, Hilltop Care Center, Pure Fishing, Keelson Harbour, Good Samaritan, and Rosewood Manor. Thanks also to all of our Starting Block Sponsors: Siri & Phil Christy& Family, Investment Centers of America, Wild Rose, Graham Tire, Dermus Skin care, Cycle Country, Security Trust Bank, Emmetsburg Care Center, United Community Bank, Lakes Regional Healthcare, Spirit Lake Kiwanis Club, Home Instead Senior Care, VFW Post 3159 Spencer, Sandy & Mark Anderson & Family, Brenda C. Congratulations to our 2009 Greater Siouxland Memory Walk Champions!

This year, facilities, families, local businesses, and supporters from the Siouxland area gathered at Chris Larsen Park on June 27, 2009 to walk to MOVE against Alzheimer's and towards a cure. All these teams and supporters raised funds and helped spread awareness for programs and services throughout the Siouxland area.

Astoundingly, the Siouxland supporters of the Memory Walk helped to raise the total funds of over $19,000.  Here are our top fundraisers:

  • Sue Thompson kept her title as the first place individual raising $669.  Lori Shaffer also for the second year in a row came in second place raising $650.
  • Top individual youth was Katie Fox raising an unbelievable $1,822 followed by Miranda Morrow who came in second place.

Home Instead Senior Care             Synergy Home Care

  • Coming in first place raising the most funds as a team was  Home Instead Senior Care raising $1,125.

                         Sunrise Senior Living

  • Sunrise Retirement Community won the Health Care Challenge by raising $2,650; runner-up was Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab, representing our statewide presenting sponsors at Care Initiatives.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Siouxland Memory Walk. Also a special thanks to our sponsors and volunteers who are a big part of this movement as well.
