The Iowa Lakes Memory Walk Held October 11, 2009
The weather was a little cool but the spirits were high and everyone enjoyed the afternoon at the Iowa Lakes Memory Walk. Entertainment was provided by the band Cornerstone. There were over 160 individuals in attendance and over $22,000 was raised. It was a tremendous team effort!
Top Individual Adult: Diane Johnson from Emmetsburg raising $930.00
Top Individual Youth: Andrew Christy from Spencer rasing $170.00
Top Team: Team Jo from Estherville raising over $2,300.00
Facility All Around Champion: Longhouse Northshire from Spencer with the runner-up for facilities being Keelson Harbour from Spirit Lake
Gold Facility Teams: Good Samaritan Society from Estherville; Hilltop Care Center from Spirit Lake; and Rosewood Manor from Estherville
Bronze Facility Team: Emmetsburg Care Facility from Emmetsburg
Thanks to all that attended the walk and supported us financially as well as emotionally. It was great to be at such a special event where the people that attended truly cared about each other and those with Alzheimer’s disease. We had three people that were walking for themselves and they all had great family support as well as support from others attending the walk.

Congratulations to our 2009 Greater Siouxland Memory Walk Champions!
This year, facilities, families, local businesses, and supporters from the Siouxland area gathered at Chris Larsen Park on June 27, 2009 to walk to MOVE against Alzheimer's and towards a cure. All these teams and supporters raised funds and helped spread awareness for programs and services throughout the Siouxland area.
Astoundingly, the Siouxland supporters of the Memory Walk helped to raise the total funds of over $19,000. Here are our top fundraisers:
- Sue Thompson kept her title as the first place individual raising $669. Lori Shaffer also for the second year in a row came in second place raising $650.
- Top individual youth was Katie Fox raising an unbelievable $1,822 followed by Miranda Morrow who came in second place.

Home Instead Senior Care Synergy Home Care
- Coming in first place raising the most funds as a team was Home Instead Senior Care raising $1,125.
- Sunrise Retirement Community won the Health Care Challenge by raising $2,650; runner-up was Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab, representing our statewide presenting sponsors at Care Initiatives.

Northwest Iowa Memory Walk in George • September 26th
The Northwest Iowa Memory Walk in George, IA had a great turn out on a sunny Saturday morning on September 26th. Friends, family, caregivers, and loved ones gathered at the George Good Samaritan where they would walk a mile on the newly built path leading to Locker Park. Walkers and supporters pulled together showing their support as they walk to end Alzheimer’s. All together, there was over $10,000 raised to support the Lyon, O’Brian, Sioux, and Osceola counties.Top Individual: Gib Knobloch raising $300
Top Team: Hannas Team raising $220
