Telephone / Reception Volunteer

The Telephone / Reception volunteer assists with answering the phone at the chapter office, transferring callers to the appropriate staff member depending on their needs, and taking messages for callers as necessary. The Telephone / Reception volunteer will also greet guests to the office and notify staff members of their arrival. Additional duties (depending on volunteer’s skills) may include light typing, opening mail, distributing mail to staff or other light office tasks. This is a position where the work duty is light, so the volunteer would be able to use the Internet in slow times or read a book or magazine. This is also a great job for students who could work on their homework. This is a seated position.

The Telephone / Reception volunteer reports to the Administrative Assistant.

Responsibilities :
• Complete volunteer application, confidentiality policy, and other paperwork as required by the Alzheimer's Association.
• Learn office telephone system (training provided)
• Answer phone and transfer callers to appropriate department or staff member
• Open and sort mail if needed
• Assist with faxes if needed (training provided)
• Greet guests at the door and welcome them
• Typing (if volunteer is interested or able)
• Help with light office or clerical tasks as needed

Qualifications :

• Willing to learn a telephone system
• Superior interpersonal and customer service skills
• Works well with others
• Willing to follow a regular schedule or contact Alzheimer's Association in case of changes
• Computer skills helpful but not necessary
• Understanding of the Chapter’s mission and programs
• Full understanding and compliance with confidentiality policy
• Completion of Volunteer Basic Training within 90 days of start date
• The Alzheimer’s Association depends heavily on contributions from individuals, and encourages all volunteers to give an annual gift to further our mission.

Time Commitment : Usually 3-4 hours a week on a mutually agreed upon set day per week. Position is offered during regular business hours of Monday 9-8pm and Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9-5pm. Alternate schedules can be considered such as every other week, or once a month.
