St. Louis Alzheimer's Association - Job Description
24-Hour Helpline Volunteer The Helpline Volunteer answers calls from families requesting information about Alzheimer’s Diseases, Chapter services and community resources. Volunteers are also responsible for ongoing follow-up with families. They maintain phone contact with families who would benefit from such things as additional information, resource referrals and a regular source of support on dealing with this disease.
The Helpline Volunteer reports to the Helpline Coordinators.
Please note: Helpline volunteers are urgently needed in our Collinsville, IL office, our Cape Girardeau, MO office, and our St. Louis, MO office.
Responsibilities:
• Answer in-coming calls from families and professionals making family referrals. • Assist families with additional information, resource referrals and support.
• Follow-up with families on a regular basis.
• Document family information and referrals given on appropriate forms and enter in computer Helpline program (training provided).
• File information as needed.
• Some Helpline Volunteers will specialize in follow-up contacts for E-mails, Respite Care Assistance, Family Care Planning, Project Esteem, and Safe Return programs.
Qualifications:
• Excellent communication and listening skills.
• Good phone skills.
• History of working with people with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia is helpful
• Knowledge of dementia and goals of Alzheimer’s Association.
• Member of St. Louis AD Chapter
• Willingness to learn basic Word Processing skills and Computer Helpline Database.
• Full understanding and compliance with confidentiality policy
Time Commitment:
• Attend Volunteer Orientation with 90 days of starting date.
• Attend initial 6 hour Helpline Orientation
• Read necessary books and materials
• Attend bi-monthly 2 hour Helpline in-services
• Helpline shift requirements are 3-4 hours per week, M-F, 8-5 p.m.
• One year minimum time commitment
