St. Louis Alzheimer's Association - Job Description
Outreach Ambassadors The Outreach Ambassador helps the St. Louis Chapter expand awareness and increase Alzheimer's Association referrals in underserved communities. The ambassador reaches out to families, health care providers, civic organizations, community leaders, business and schools to inform the public of available services and opportunities for involvement.
The ambassador is a volunteer position that provides opportunities to work in your local community wit 38-county service area. Ambassadors serve as information and awareness links in the community to promote association events, services and opportunities for service and leadership. They also assist in identifying resources, and recruiting volunteers and donors to support needed association services.
The Outreach Ambassador reports to the local Outreach Coordinator.
Responsibilities:
• Complete volunteer application, confidentiality policy, and other paperwork as required by the Alzheimer's Association.
• Increase awareness by conducting periodic informational visits to key community contacts in designated geographic area (~ 4 times / year).
• Deliver pertinent information to community locations (i.e., libraries, physician offices, pharmacies, faith communities).
• Identify community leaders / influencers for the chapter’s outreach.
• Make referrals to appropriate chapter services for potential clients and identify potential volunteers.
• Serve as local representative for Alzheimer’s Association staff at education venues, speaking engagements, health fairs and other community events.
• Identify potential advocates and volunteers to support chapter’s outreach initiatives.
• Maintain contact with chapter staff and complete quarterly activity reports.
• Maintain current knowledge of chapter services.
Qualifications:
• Strong public speaking skills.
• Self-motivation and comfort with face-to-face interactions (network & cold call).
• Ability to report monthly activity in a timely manner using personal Inter-net access.
• Shadow outreach staff and / or ambassadors for 3 visits before deployment.
• Must complete at least 1 Advanced Training opportunity per year.
• Knowledge of local community leaders, organizations, agencies and influencers.
• Knowledge of chapter services and outreach strategies (training provided).
• Willingness to travel within limited area (mileage is subject to reimbursement).
• Willingness to set aside personal and professional associations to avoid possible conflicts of interest.
• Must be able to lift 20 lbs.
• Association donor or existing volunteer.
• Understanding of the Chapter’s mission and programs
• Full understanding and compliance with confidentiality policy
• Completion of Volunteer Basic Training within 90 days of start date
The Alzheimer’s Association depends heavily on contributions from individuals, and encourages all volunteers to
give an annual gift to further our mission.
Time Commitment: 3 –5 flexible hours per month to meet chapter and community needs.
