About the Walk to End Alzheimer's™

In 2012 we will Walk to End Alzheimer's!

The Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's is our national signature event and brings together family, friends, caregivers and concerned community members — who want to make a difference. Since 1989, Walk to End Alzheimer's, previously titled Memory Walk, has raised more than $300 million to help those battling Alzheimer's disease.

Join the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's and unite in a movement to reclaim the future for millions. With more than 5.4 million Americans living with Alzheimer's, and nearly 11 million more serving as caregivers, the time to act is now! When you register for Walk to End Alzheimer's, you're joining an unstoppable force of thousands of people who are standing up to this devastating disease.

Walkers' Efforts Continue to be Amazing

As proven time and time again, the Capital of Texas Chapter walkers are truly Alzheimer's Champions. They continually utilize their voices to raise awareness in local communities, they understand the impact of each dollar fundraised and they appreciate the camaraderie felt among all those who join together to walk each year. Over 2,000 people walked in our four local 2011 Walk to End Alzheimer's & surpassed yet another goal. Their commitment for change inspired them to raise more than $250,000 for local Alzheimer's care, support, and research!

Thank you to each walker, donor, sponsor and advocate who made this years Walk to end Alzheimer's season another record-breaking success, and will ultimately help the Capital of Texas Chapter serve the more than 60,000 individuals, family members and caregivers we serve throughout Central Texas.This inspiring event calls on volunteers of all ages to move to end Alzheimer's.

Start a Team
Forming a team for the Walk to End Alzheimer'scan enhance your experience and multiply your impact on the fight against Alzheimer's. Together, as a team, you are a force much greater than what you can accomplish alone.

Starting a team is easy. First, select a walk near you and register online. You will have access to your very own Web site that you can use as your fundraising headquarters. Then recruit family, friends and colleagues to join your team - and ask for donations. Here are some tools to help you rally your team around the cause:

Fundraising Tools
Fundraising doesn't have to be difficult! You have the support of the Alzheimer's Association behind you.

Word document Fundraising ideas: Ask for donations from co-workers, friends, neighbors and family members. Many people are happy to help when they know you're raising money for a good cause.

  • Matching gifts: Don't forget to ask your donors if their employer will match their gift. Submit matching gift forms to the Alzheimer's Association office at 3429 Executive Center Dr., Ste 100, Austin, TX 78731 or fax to 512.241.0430.

Volunteer Opportunities
There are many ways you can get involved in the 2012 Walk to End Alzheimer's™. Contact the Capital of Texas office at 512.241.0420 or email Kaylee.Aune@alz.org for more information.

Walk Committee: Enjoy details? There are many event-related responsibilities that require the assistance of dedicated volunteers. Help your local Alzheimer's Association to secure the Walk location and plan activities before or after the event.

Event day: On the day of the event, we need volunteers to help set up, clean up, sign walkers in, run activities, serve food and more. We need individual and group volunteers.

Team captains: You don't have to walk to be a team captain! As a captain, your big job is rallying walkers and motivating them to raise funds and awareness for our cause.

Team builders: Join staff and other volunteers as we help teams raise money! You can help us recruit new teams, motivate walkers and provide assistance for those who need some help with fundraising.
