Our History

The Alzheimer’s Association STAR Chapter was established on July 1, 2002, when six independent Alzheimer’s Associations in Texas merged their resources to better respond to the existing and future needs of their collective client base.  The decision to merge these offices was based on a desire to improve the scope and quality of services that could be focused in support of the Alzheimer’s families in the region while maximizing the modest resources of each office.  The newly formed organization covers an area of 163,690 square miles in Texas and maintains service delivery offices situated in Amarillo, Corpus Christi, El Paso, Lubbock, McAllen, Midland, Nacogdoches, and San Antonio, Texas.  The STAR Chapter service delivery area covers approximately 62% of Texas’ geographic region and provides services to approximately 36% of the states senior citizen population (65 years old and older), the group most at risk for Alzheimer’s disease.
