Utah's Official State Plan for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias 2012-2017
With legislative counsel, Senator Morgan is currently writing a bill that will contain the full Plan and take the form of a resolution without a fiscal note to maximize its potential for passage so that it serves as a platform for departments, divisions, bureaus and agencies to adopt changes – strategies in the Plan mention nearly two dozen such entities – and a framework for additional legislation that could carry a fiscal note. The goal is to pass the resolution.

Other News: Governor Herbert signed the Alzheimer’s Task Force bill into law on March 23, 2011. You will be hearing more in the coming days about the work of the task force. The group will meet periodically from now through November and then present a report with recommendations to the Governor and the legislature prior to the beginning of the 2012 legislative session. Then we will work with the legislature to complete a Utah State Alzheimer’s Plan that will have “real teeth” to dramatically improve the way Utah as a state addresses the three “C’s” relating to Alzheimer’s: CAUSE, CURE and CARE.

“……Objectives of the task force are to assess the current and future impact of Alzheimer’s disease on residents of the state; determine the existing resources for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers; and develop recommendations to respond to escalating needs for services and resources….The task force will hold six public meetings throughout the state to receive insight from experts in the field of Alzheimer’s and collect public input. The preliminary dates are as follows: June 9 – Clearfield; July 7 – Logan; August 18 – Central Utah; September 15 – St. George; and October 13 - Salt Lake City…”
