Engagement & Fundraising
Team Captain Engagement Plan
Building relationships is key to the success of Walk to End Alzheimer's teams. The Team Retention committee and Team Recruitment committee should be touching base with each Team Captain several times; when they sign up, inviting past teams to the Past Team Registration event, inviting new Team Captain prospects to the Team Kickoff and then leading up to the event. Engaged Team Captains have a greater capacity to lead successful, larger, higher-fundraising teams. Use this engagement time to cultivate each Team Captain and to encourage fundraising and team member development.
Is there a registration fee?
The Walk to End Alzheimer's does not have a registration fee or a required fundraising minimum, however, we ask every walker to make a personal donation and commit to raising funds in the fight against Alzheimer's.
Does every walker get a t-shirt?
Every registered participant will receive a t-shirt after achieving the fundraising level established at their local chapter. In most instances, this is $100.
Where does the money go?
The funds raised through Walk to End Alzheimer's benefit the care, support and research efforts of the Association. See this page for further information.
How is the money collected?
Submitting donations to the Alzheimer's Association is quick and easy. Donations can be made online, by submitting a check or money order by mail and hand-delivering cash, checks or money orders to your local Chapter.
How do I encourage walkers to start fundraising?
The best fundraising efforts start by sharing your personal story about why you're participating in the Walk. You can share your story on your personal Walk to End Alzheimer's fundraising page by logging in to your participant center. Once your page is updated, share it with friends, family, and co-workers via email, social networking, and word of mouth. Learn more about fundraising by watching the video tutorials provided here.
What is the Champions Club?
If an individual raises $500 or more for the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association, they will join the elite ranks of the Walk to End Alzheimer's Champions Club. Members of the Champions Club receive special recognition and benefits (see below for more detail).
Summit Marketing – Participant Incentive Prize Program
Chapters have the option to participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer's prize program in partnership with Summit Marketing. The program is designed to eliminate fundraising staff time spent managing inventory; eliminate extra spending on prizes that are never used; and give participants an extra incentive with merchandise choices to reach that next level of fundraising.
Registered participants from across the country can become Champions Club members by reaching an individual fundraising level of $500 or more. Champions Club members receive special benefits that help them stand out from the crowd, especially on event day. It is crucial to promote this program and talk about Champions Club at every opportunity. Please make sure all event staff and volunteers are familiar with the program and know to properly acknowledge this special group of fundraisers.
The Orange County Chapter has seen some great success with adding a drop off to their Champions Club program. When a walker reaches the $500 fundraising level, they make an in-person drop off including the Champions Club certificate, a thank you letter, and a purple Alzheimer's balloon. They stop by their place of work or home and snap a photo of their latest Champions Club member for future promotion and recognition. The Champions appreciate the recognition, it helps us strengthen that relationship with our top fundraisers and we hope it will only inspire them to continue their fundraising. Consider starting something similar at your chapter!
Team Week is an initiative to help your Walk raise donations! It is designed to promote fun and healthy competition between your team captains, while adding new walkers along the way. By holding a Team Week, you can focus on motivating your team captains to recruit team members for their teams from resources they already have, but haven't tapped into. As the week comes to a close, you will help them surpass their recruitment goals and reward them in the process. See Team Week Overview and don't be afraid to customize for your area.
Fundraising Tools & Resources
Together we must set general fundraising expectations and provide the tools our team captains and participants need to achieve their goals. The funds raised through Walk to End Alzheimer's support the Association's mission to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
