This marks the 9th year for the Thanks for the Memories Luncheon honoring West Virginians who have shown outstanding efforts in the fight against Alzheimer's. Named in honor of it's first recipient, Senator John D. Rockefeller, IV, past Rockefeller Award winners have included civic leaders, government leaders, physicians, caregivers and advocates with the disease.
The funds raised at this event go to support the programs and services provided by the Alzheimer's Association, WV Chapter.
49,000+ individuals face the challenge of Alzheimer's disease everyday in our Chapter area, 5.2 million across the nation. A number that only continues to grow. We need you to be a CHAMPION.
Rockefeller Award Winners
Ms. Patty V. Tompkins

Roger was a prominent attorney in Charleston, Rhodes Scholar, former member of the West Virginia House of Delegates and served as Attorney General for West Virginia under Gov. Gaston Caperton. Patty and her husband spoke publicly about Alzheimer's, and participated in many public forums as well as early research projects including one at Oxford in England. After Roger's death, Patty remained a voice for those with Alzheimer's disease and their caregivers. She served on the Board of Directors of the Southern West Virginia Alzheimer's Association and was instrumental in establishing what we now know as the West Virginia Chapter. Patty has attended the national Public Policy Forum in Washington, D.C. and has been active in numerous initiatives over the past 18 years. Patty served on the committee that created the first Thanks for the Memories Luncheon in 2001. Patty is currently the Managing Editor of the Charleston Gazette.
