New! 2008 Zenith Challenge Announced
Zenith Challenges are brought forth by members to raise the bar
in giving by their peers and to bring in new members. Three separate
Zenith Challenges have already raised over $20 million for the Alzheimer's
Association!
Inspired by the success of these challenges, one of our newest
Zenith members decided to create one of their own. On the anniversary
of making their first gift, this generous family announced that
they will renew their Zenith membership if the Association can raise
four additional gifts of $1 million or more in 2008.
By renewing their Zenith commitment, this philanthropic family
will continue to help change the course of Alzheimer's while giving
hope to the millions who are facing it today.

Brochure highlights success of Zenith researchers
The success of the research made possible by the Zenith Society
has been highlighted in a compelling new brochure, The
Zenith Society: A Story of Progress. This intriguing document
tells the story of how researchers who were granted Zenith Awards
have contributed to the field of Alzheimer science, specifically
in deciphering the mystery of beta-amyloid, a protein that is considered
to be one of the key factors in Alzheimer's disease.
New! Zenith Society featured in
scientific journal Alzheimer’s and Dementia
An editorial entitled Zenith
Award Program of the Alzheimer’s Association appeared in the
October 2007 issue of the quarterly scientific journal, Alzheimer’s
and Dementia. The article discusses the importance of Zenith
and the crucial role Zenith research awards have played in supporting
innovative grants to established scientists that keep the field
of Alzheimer science moving forward.
Advocates flood Congress' e-mail boxes with increased Alzheimer
research funding appeal
During the Association's recent Citizens Campaign, Alzheimer advocates
sent a record-breaking 15,361 e-mails to their U.S. senators and
representatives asking for a $125 million increase in Alzheimer
research funding. Several congressional offices even reported that
they heard more from Alzheimer advocates than any other group.

2007 Zenith research grants
Every year, the Zenith Society awards funding to some of the most creative and cutting-edge research studies in Alzheimer science.
To help sustain the current pace of discovery vital to advancing the next generation of treatments and effective prevention strategies, the Society voted to do two extraordinary things:
- Fund nine new Zenith awards for the 2007 grant cycle, infusing $500,000 more into vital studies over last year.
- Increase the Zenith awards next cycle from a two-year, $250,000 grant to a three-year, $450,000 commitment.

Grants program ad gives thanks to Zenith
For the first time ever, the Alzheimer's
Association is putting an ad for its research grants program
in five prominent scientific journals this fall. The purpose
of the ad is twofold: to get the word out to scientists to
apply for one of our grants and to promote the increased Zenith
award amount.
