Alzheimer’s Association Highlighted in National Alzheimer’s
Disease Month Coverage
November was National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month as well
as National Family Caregiver Month. The Association worked to make
sure Alzheimer’s was included in the media. In addition to the numerous
stories that ran in local publications, several nationwide placements
were secured on behalf of the entire organization. These included:
- a nine-page article in Town & Country entitled “What You
Need to Know About Alzheimer’s,” which ran in the publication’s
November issue and featured several Association champions.
- a mention on talk show Martha Stewart that according to the
Alzheimer’s Association, there were an estimated 5 million Americans
currently living with Alzheimer’s and that November is National
Alzheimer’s Disease Month.
- a Wall Street Journal article entitled “Informed
Patient: More Resources Can help Caregivers Care for Themselves,”
which highlighted the Alzheimer’s Association as a resource for
caregiving assistance.
- Coach Broyles’ promotion of “Coach Broyle’s Playbook for Alzheimer’s
Caregivers” across the nation, including in a number of radio
and television interviews.
- a Hallmark Hall of Fame screening of the made-for-television
movie titled “Pictures
of Hollis Woods,” for which the Association, including Board
member Laurel Coleman, worked closely with Hallmark to ensure
Sissy Spacek’s character (a woman with early-stage Alzheimer’s
disease) was depicted in an accurate manner. Hallmark even included
a PSA at the end of the movie directing people to the Association
for more information on Alzheimer’s.
