Michael Carson is the chief marketing officer of the Alzheimer’s Association, leading initiatives that drive the global conversation around Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias and advancing the organization as the leader in Alzheimer’s care, support and research. In this capacity, Carson oversees a team that manages the Association’s key public platforms, including web and mobile sites, social media, media relations, public policy marketing, celebrity and entertainment engagement, advertising, branding, digital media and internal communications.

Under Carson’s leadership, the Association has grown concern, awareness and visibility of the organization and its programs and services through an enhanced branded presence in traditional media and digital platforms. Reach via media impressions have increased by 45 percent, visits to alz.org by 48 percent and social media followers by nearly 50 percent, transforming the Association’s awareness levels and heightening concern around Alzheimer’s.

To foster this growth, Carson leads the expansion of existing platforms such as the annual Alzheimer’s Association Facts and Figures special report and the development of new initiatives, including the Association’s First Survivor brand campaign, a multichannel effort launched in 2016 to raise awareness of the organization’s dedication to those facing Alzheimer’s and its determination to end the disease. Carson also led the development and launch of a new brand campaign supporting public policy efforts in Washington, D.C., as well as the rebranding of the Alzheimer’s Impact Movement (AIM), the advocacy arm of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Carson has broadened the Association’s strategy to engage celebrities and the entertainment community as voice multipliers to educate the public about the cause. This has resulted in unique opportunities, such as the Pure Imagination PSA campaign featuring Gene Wilder, who died of complications of Alzheimer’s, and scenes from “Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory.”

Prior to joining the Alzheimer’s Association, Carson held a marketing and operations role as executive vice president and chief marketing officer for an ad-supported tech-based start-up venture. He also held marketing leadership roles at FTD Flowers and Gifts, Ogilvy & Mather, Orbitz Travel, FCB and Leo Burnett.

He served on the Google App Developer Council and the Discover Financial Services Merchant Advisory Board.

Carson received a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Notre Dame and a bachelor’s degree in business administration and marketing from Marquette University.
