Richard H. Hovland, CPA, FACHE, CAE, is chief operating officer of the Alzheimer’s Association, overseeing the functional areas of Finance, Information Technology, Human Resources, Office Services, Legal, Conference Services, the Alzheimer's Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer's Research and Treatment (ISTAART), Strategic Projects, Internal Audit and Donor Services.
 
Under his stewardship, the Association has been recognized for eight consecutive years by The NonProfit Times as one of the “Best Nonprofits to Work For” and has placed first or second in the “number-one large nonprofit employer to work for” category the past seven years. Hovland also played an integral role in the merger of the Association’s Home Office and its nationwide network of nearly 80 chapters into a single, unified organization.
 
Hovland has extensive experience in association senior management, including seven years as the vice president of Finance and Administration for the American College of Healthcare Executives and nine years as the chief financial officer for the Illinois CPA Society. He earned bachelor’s degrees in accounting and finance from Northern Illinois University and holds an MBA in finance from DePaul University.
