Richard H. Hovland, CPA, FACHE, CAE, is chief operating officer of the Alzheimer’s Association, overseeing the functional areas of Finance, Information Technology, Human Resources, Office Services, Legal, Conference Services, Strategic Projects, Internal Audit and Donor Services.
Under his stewardship, the Association has been recognized for 11 consecutive years by The NonProfit Times as one of the Best Nonprofits to Work For. Hovland also played an integral role in the merger of the Association’s Home Office and its nationwide network of nearly 80 chapters into a single, unified organization.
Hovland has extensive experience in association senior management, including seven years as the vice president of Finance and Administration for the American College of Healthcare Executives. He has also served as the chief financial officer for the Illinois CPA Society, where he oversaw most operational departments. Hovland spent more than 10 years in large corporate environments, including as a project manager for Motorola.
Hovland earned bachelor’s degrees in accounting and finance from Northern Illinois University and he holds an MBA in finance from DePaul University.
