Since Alzheimer's affects people in different ways, each person will experience symptoms - or progress through Alzheimer's stages - differently.

Designed for both the person in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease and their caregivers, personalized and interactive programs discuss what you need to know, how to plan, and what to do to navigate an Alzheimer's diagnosis. Additional programs offer networking and social interaction with other early stage individuals.

Living with Alzheimer's

Living with Alzheimer's for people with Alzheimer's is an interactive education series for individuals in the early stage of memory loss and their care partners. Living with Alzheimer's will discuss what you need to know, what you need to plan, and what you can do to navigate this chapter of your life. Sessions are held once a month for a total of five educational sessions.

If you are interested in participating in an upcoming Living with Alzheimer's series, registration is required: 800.272.3900 or contact geoachl@alz.org.

Memory Café

Individuals with early-stage memory loss often exhibit changes in behavior, cognition and daily routine. These changes may cause them to withdraw from social situations. Memory Café seeks to offer a fun, safe, educational space for individuals to meet others handling similar diagnoses.

The Greater East Ohio Area Chapter currently coordinates two Memory Cafés in partnership with the Akron-Summit County Public Library and the North Canton Public Library. Meeting once per month, Memory Café invites individuals with a memory loss diagnosis and their caregivers to a unique speaker or presentation each month, where the focus is not on their diagnosis.

Starting in September 2017, a third Memory Café will begin in the Mahoning Valley area hosted by the DD & Velma Davis Family YMCA in Youngstown, and held on the third Thursday of each month.

Attendance at every session is not necessary for any of the three Memory Cafés, but registration is required. Register at geoachl@alz.org or 800.272.3900.
