Early Stage

If you have a recent Alzheimer's diagnosis, we offer care and support for you and your loved ones.

"Early-Stage" refers to people, irrespective of age, who are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia and are in the beginning stages of the disease. In this stage they retain the ability to participate in daily activities and in a give-and-take dialogue. This includes those persons with younger-onset that develop dementia under age 65 and who are still in the early stages of the disease.

Memory Café

Individuals with early-stage memory loss often exhibit changes in behavior, cognition and daily routine. These changes may cause them to withdraw from social situations. Memory Café seeks to offer a fun, safe, educational space for individuals to meet others handling similar diagnoses.

The Greater East Ohio Area Chapter currently coordinates two Memory Cafés in partnership with the Akron-Summit County Public Library and the North Canton Public Library. Meeting once per month, Memory Café invites individuals with a memory loss diagnosis and their caregivers to a unique speaker or presentation each month, where the focus is not on their diagnosis.

Attendance at every session is not necessary for any Memory Café, but registration is required. Register at geoachl@alz.org or 800.272.3900.

Upcoming Memory Café sessions:

  • North Canton Public Library (Stark County): Meets once per month, contact to register. (Updated  Spring 2018.)
  • Ellet (Summit County): Meets once per month, contact to register. (Updated Winter 2017.)
