General Summary

We are looking for someone to assist mainly in the Finance department, with the potential for special projects in other departments. This is a year round internship.

This internship is located in Chicago, IL.

Essential Job Functions

  • Entry of cash receipts, accounts receivable and accounts payable into accounting software, including the coding of deposits, invoices and vouchers.
  • Preparing and entering journal entries, filing and scanning.
  • Reconciling online donations with cash received.
  • Producing checks out of accounting software.
  • Assisting staff with shared revenue reporting.
  • Performing bank reconciliations, journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Assisting with producing monthly financial statements.
Skills Acquired
  • Familiarity with a standard month-end close process.
  • Knowledge of Not-For-Profit (NFP) organizations, accounting and GAAP.
  • Experience with shared revenue arrangements, a unique policy for NFP organizations.
  • Enhanced organizational skills and professionalism.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • Enrolled in higher education institution with a major in Accounting or related business field.
  • Prior office experience or customer experience preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Flexible schedule but must be able to work a minimum of 4 hours in a work day, approximately 20 hours a week.

  • Ability to work independently while updating supervisor on status of tasks.
  • Willingness to take direction and manages the priorities for executing multiple projects.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Solid work ethic and initiative.
  • Maintain organization confidentiality.
  • Exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with staff, management, and outside contacts.
