We offer classroom and online training for healthcare supervisors and direct care workers in both community and residential care settings. Many programs provide Social Work CEUs.

The chapter provides monthly Dementia Care trainings at various locations within our service area and is available to provide training on-site.

essentiALZ®

This online program offers individual training in dementia care, from HealthCare Interactive, Inc., as well as individual certification by the Alzheimer's Association to recognize those who complete the program and demonstrate knowledge of quality dementia care practices. Both family members and professional care providers can benefit.

There are two certification options:

essentiALZ plus Dementia Advanced Care:

This certification can be earned after taking the approved prerequisite training, CARES® Dementia Basics and Advanced Training™ (10 hours) and the essentiALZ exam. The essentiALZ Plus Dementia Advanced Care certification exam covers basics of Alzheimer's and dementia care, behavior, communication, person-centered care, eating well, recognizing pain, minimizing falls, wandering and minimizing the use of restraints.

essentiALZ plus Dementia-Related Behaviors

This certification can be earned after taking the approved prerequisite training, CARES® Dementia Basics (4 hours), CARES® Dementia-Related Behavior (4 hours) and the essentiALZ exam. The essentiALZ Plus Dementia-Related Behavior certification exam covers an introduction to dementia-related behaviors using the CARES® approach to dementia-related behaviors, breaking down the CARES® approach and key responses to dementia-related behavior.

essentiALZ Recertification: Alzheimer’s Association essentiALZ certifications are valid for two years.  The expiration date is printed on your certificate. If your certification is expiring, you will need to retake the training and exam. There is a new dedicated recertification course designed to reduce the amount of time away from your work. It features a shorter required reviewing time for each module (10 minutes instead of 60 minutes).
