The Alzheimer's Association and the State of Florida's Department of Elder Affairs are excited to offer essentiALZ training, certification and Exchange at no cost while supplies last. This program is specifically designed for direct care workers in long-term and community-based care settings in Florida.

What is essentiALZ Training, Certification and Exchange?
This program includes a three hour Person-Centered Dementia Care Training Program + essentiALZ certification exam developed by the Alzheimer’s Association as well as an additional one hour, virtual interactive experience - the essentiALZ Exchange. Here you will be able to ask questions and explore case studies with other professionals enrolled in the program. Direct care workers will have 30 days to complete this program.

The three hour Person-Centered Dementia Care Training Program is a self-paced online curriculum that educates professional care workers on current evidence-based, person-centered practices to care for individuals living with dementia and covers five topic areas:

  • Alzheimer's disease and dementia
  • Person-centered care
  • Assessment and care planning
  • Activities of daily living
  • Dementia-related behaviors and communication

This practical and comprehensive training is based on the nationally-recognized, evidence-based Alzheimer’s Association Dementia Care Practice Recommendations — the benchmark for quality person-centered care across the disease spectrum.

Why is it important?
Prepare yourself to deliver quality dementia care and set yourself apart! Professional care workers who complete the training are eligible to take the essentiALZ exam to demonstrate their knowledge of quality care practices and earn a two-year certification.

How do I get started?
Participants will commit to completing their training within 30 days of their start date and attending one essentiALZ Exchange meeting.

Direct care workers in long-term and community-based care settings in Florida interested in receiving this training and certification exam at no cost, please apply here.
