For 76,000 Colorado families and 6.2 million across the United States, the reality of an Alzheimer’s diagnosis goes beyond the disease and the tragic deterioration of our loved ones. The financial implications of this incurable disease are daunting, and the Alzheimer’s Association has free resources to help families plan.

In the early stages of Alzheimer’s, families may employ non-medical home health aides, which can cost $1,000 for a 40-hour week. As the disease progresses, assisted living facilities cost in the range of $50,000 per year, while a private room in a nursing home is likely to top $100,000 per year.

Recognizing the burden these costs will put on most families, the Alzheimer’s Association has developed a free educational program, “Legal and Financial Planning for Alzheimer’s Disease,” which can help families anticipate the challenges they will face as their loved ones progress with the disease. The webinar will be offered from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11.

“Legal and Financial Planning for Alzheimer’s Disease,” is one in a series of live webinars that will be offered at no charge during the month of August. The full schedule for the month includes:
