Three business and community leaders with extensive histories of advocacy on behalf of the Alzheimer’s cause have been elected to join the board of directors of the Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado.

Executives from Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) and Saza Wealth Partners, along with the chair of the San Juan Basin Alzheimer’s & Dementia Initiative, are the newest board members, bringing the Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado board membership to 18 for 2022.

“We are honored to have three outstanding professionals join our board who not only have a deep, personal connection to Alzheimer’s disease, but also long-standing commitments to serve this community,” said Kristen Beatty, board chair of the Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado. “They will be powerful additions to the Colorado Chapter and advocates for our mission.”

Joining the Colorado board for three-year terms are:
  • Jim Callahan – Founder and Managing Partner of Saza Wealth Partners in Denver. An experienced wealth advisor and investment manager for over 20 years, he has captained a team in the Denver Walk to End Alzheimer’s for the past four years. His father recently passed away with Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Katherine Schultz – Denver-based manager at PwC. Prior to moving to Denver, Katherine volunteered for the Alzheimer’s Association in Dallas as a community educator. She was introduced to the Association when she moved back to her home state of Ohio to be a caregiver for her father, who is currently living with younger-onset Alzheimer’s. While there, she served as a board member for the Alzheimer’s Association Junior Committee. Most recently, she joined the Colorado Chapter as a legislative advocate volunteer.
  • Teresa Valko – Chair of the San Juan Basin Alzheimer’s Dementia Initiative. She is the current chair of the Durango Walk to End Alzheimer’s and former chair of the board of directors of the Alzheimer’s Association of California Central Coast. The former scientific director for an embryology/IVF practice, she has served in many Alzheimer’s Association roles: spokesperson, legislative advocate, Walk volunteer and board member since 2011. Her mother died from Alzheimer’s and many of her family members have been affected by the disease.
“I am impressed by the depth of experience that these individuals bring to our board,” said Jeff Bird, executive director of the Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado. “They each have a deep understanding of the impact this disease has on our families and communities, and I believe the knowledge and energy they will bring to our organization will make us all better.”

There are 76,000 Coloradans living with Alzheimer’s disease and 159,000 more who serve as their voluntary, unpaid caregivers. Alzheimer’s is the seventh-leading cause of death, and the only leading disease without a prevention or cure.
