Based on the guidance from local public health agencies, all in-person social engagement activities with the Heart of America Chapter have been postponed, however many social engagement groups are being held virtually.

Ongoing Social Engagement Activities

 

Memory Café

4th Wednesday of every month
9:30 - 10:30 a.m.

A virtual social gathering for individuals living with memory loss, mild cognitive impairment or dementia as well as their care partner — a spouse, partner, family member or caregiver. Virtual Memory Café utilizes a variety of structured activities to promote social interaction, engagement, cognition and reminiscing. This is an opportunity for loved ones and care partners to form new bonds of friendship in a safe, supportive and welcoming setting.

Jam Session

3rd Thursday of every month
2:30 - 3:30 p.m.

A virtual social gathering for individuals living with memory loss, mild cognitive impairment or dementia, their families and care partners. Join us while we sing songs, play instruments, move to the beat or simply listen while enjoying the music we will make. No musical experience is necessary, just show up virtually and join the fun.

Caregiver Book Club

January through March
4th Wednesday of every month
12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

A virtual support program for caregivers and family members who enjoy learning through reading, but are also seeking social connection. The reading selection for our spring session is “Living with Alzheimer’s & Other Dementia: 101 Stories of Caring, Coping and Compassion,” which is part of the Chicken Soup for the Soul book series. Caregivers are encouraged to read at their own pace and join regardless of where they are in their journey through the book.

Community Corner

1st Wednesday of every month
1:00 - 2:00 p.m.

An informative social engagement program for individuals in diverse communities to gather virtually to discuss numerous topics regarding Alzheimer’s and other dementias. The group is facilitated by Lucille Lowe, an experienced caregiver who has been trained by the Alzheimer’s Association as a Community educator. Lucille welcomes anyone to join this group.
