Good morning Friend, Supportive. Caring. Brave. Wise. These are a few words that might describe the dads in our lives. We thank our father-figures for their lessons in strength and courage and celebrate all dads facing the challenges of Alzheimer's disease head-on. We also take a special moment today to honor those who are no longer with us.   In honor of Father's Day, I'd like to share a special story about how the love between a father and daughter inspired a journey of self-awareness and empowerment. Sylvia Waller had always relied on her hero — her father, James — for advice. Over time, though, James had difficulty answering questions, and Sylvia became concerned. Their family had a history of Alzheimer's disease, and then a diagnostic evaluation confirmed Sylvia's fears. James, too, had the disease.   After her father passed away, Sylvia knew she needed to be a part of something important. "In honor of my father and everyone who has been lost to the disease, I decided that 2019 is the year I am going to use my voice to take action: to empower others, to raise awareness, and to help facilitate early detection, diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer's disease." You can read Sylvia's story online to learn more about how she has become a community leader in honor of her father. This Father's Day, we celebrate all the dads in our lives. May we be inspired by them the way Sylvia's dad has inspired her.   I know that Father's Day can be difficult for those who are currently facing Alzheimer's and for families who have experienced loss.
