Celebrating 76 years in Arizona and headquartered in Scottsdale, Harkins Theatres is the largest family owned theatre chain in the country and the premier movie exhibitor of the Western U.S. operating more than 400 screens in five states  Featuring a larger selection of film, snacks, and innovative amenities to moviegoers since 1933, Harkins Theatres is renowned for its commitment and passion for offering the Ultimate Moviegoing® experience.  Founded by showman, inventor, and community leader Dwight “Red” Harkins, Harkins Theatres has historically been a trailblazer for advancements in the motion picture exhibition industry.

Today, Dan Harkins and the entire Harkins Theatres team, strive to be an innovator in the industry, introducing Arizona to stadium seating, an unprecedented array of snack items, state-of-the-art digital projection and sound, the Ultimate Rocker® rocking chair love seats, the Harkins PlayCenter, foreign, art and independent films, and of course, our signature amenity – the Cine Capri.

The original Cine Capri had a long and illustrious history in Phoenix. In 1998, The Cine Capri’s landlord forced us to close its doors. Ironically, “Titanic” was its final film.  In 2003, Harkins Theatres resurrected the new Cine Capri as part of our Scottsdale 101 megaplex.  Today’s Cine Capri boasts a screen three stories high and over 70 feet wide, towering before 600 high-back rocking chair loveseats. Moviegoers in Arizona, Texas, Colorado and Oklahoma now enjoy the signature gold waterfall drapes as they dramatically unveil a larger than life screen.

In an effort to give back, Harkins Theatres is proud to help the communities that have helped us over the years. In 2009, Harkins Theatres donated more than $2 million worth of movie tickets, public service announcements and special fundraising events to worthy organizations, including the Alzheimer’s Association.

“Alzheimer’s is a terrifying disease that steals away the lives and futures of those affected." shared Dan Harkins.  "My children’s only grandparent, my wife’s mother, was vivacious, healthy, intelligent, caring, and one of the most energetic persons on the planet. Then, her mind was taken from her body and all that was left was a shell of her former self. Let’s all hope that research will lead to successful advanced testing or even a cure for this devastating disease, before more families lose the irreplaceable blessing of having their parents and grandparents in their lives.”

"Harkins Theatres truly cares about the local community", states Dan Lawler, Development Director of the Desert Southwest Chapter.  "We are delighted to be able to continue our partnership with such an outstanding company."
