Emeritus was founded by Daniel Baty, Ray Brandstrom and Frank Ruffo in 1993, with a single community in Renton, Washington. With more than 75 years of combined experience with nursing homes and senior housing between them, they decided to start an assisted living company focused on providing high quality service and care at an affordable price for people needing extra help with the activities of daily living.

In 1995, Emeritus went public on the American Stock Exchange. At the time, the company owned and operated 26 assisted living and retirement communities in 15 states throughout the U.S. In 2007, Emeritus acquired Summerville Senior Living, at which point Granger Cobb and many of the senior management team of Summerville joined the company.

Today, Emeritus owns and operates over 289 communities in 37 states across the U.S. and continues to expand. While we offer one of the largest networks of assisted living and retirement communities in North America, we stay true to the core ideals on which we were founded: making a difference in people's lives by providing service of the highest quality and value in a supportive environment, promoting the health, independence and social interaction of seniors

While each community is managed locally and offers its own distinct personality, there is a common bond that unites them all: the Emeritus Family Values.  “Our Family Values aren’t just something behind a pretty frame,” shared Augustine “Gus” Farias, Executive Director, Emeritus Las Vegas.  “We review them daily.  We make our daily decisions based on them.  We live them.”

"We have promised ourselves that we shall always treat our residents as we would our own loved ones. Nothing less than our best will do."

This is a simple promise that the staff at Emeritus at Las Vegas — and throughout Emeritus senior living communities — has shared since 2002, when Emeritus at Las Vegas first opened its doors under the Emeritus name. It's a simple promise to be compassionate and kind, understanding and respectful — a promise to become extended family to the seniors entrusted in our care and to our retirees who have chosen our community for its active lifestyle.

Currently, an estimated 5.3 million Americans live with Alzheimer’s – more than those affected by breast cancer and prostate cancer combined – and with a new diagnosis every 70 seconds, the need for awareness is only continuing to grow.

Emeritus Senior Living is pleased to announce its commitment to support the Alzheimer’s Association both locally and as a Member level National Team for Memory Walk 2010. “When I approached my supervisor, Katie Finn, about sponsoring our local Memory Walk she said “Yes, it is the right thing to do.” I am very grateful to be part of the Emeritus family.” said Augustine “Gus” Farias.

Memory Walk is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Taking place in over 600 communities nationwide, Memory Walk and the National Team Program provide companies like Emeritus Senior Living the opportunity to rally around the Alzheimer cause and make a visible impact on the communities we serve.
