The Hacienda del Sol has been a Tucson landmark since 1929.

In 1929, John and Helen Murphey created Hacienda Del Sol, a desert getaway and “home away from home” ranch school for girls. The prestigious school’s roster boasted some of the country’s most elite families: Vanderbilt, Pillsbury, Maxwell, Westinghouse, and Campbell, to name a few. In 1948, Hacienda Del Sol was converted into a guest ranch that immediately attracted the Silver Screen’s most notable stars, among them John Wayne and Clark Gable. Legend has it that Hacienda’s Casita Grande was the favorite hideaway of Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn.

Today, the story continues, with simple pleasures, understated elegance, and charming hospitality at this classic Arizona boutique hotel. “The Soul of Tucson in the Heart of the Foothills” bespeaks the desire of its’ Tucson owners to nurture the beauty and authenticity of this special property.

Hacienda Del Sol is full of history and is nationally recognized for its cuisine and beautiful gardens. This 34 acre property offers 30 quiet, secluded and luxurious guestrooms, suites, and private casitas. Each has free high-speed, wireless Internet access, cable TV, refrigerator, coffee maker, snacks, and plush robes. There are also business travel facilities (computer, fax and printer) available in the hotel lobby.

Hacienda Del Sol has so much to offer-on property or available close by-such as the award-winning restaurant, spa treatments, a pool and hot tub, horseback riding stables, gift shop, and wine shop, offering favorites from our 2000 label wine cellar.

“Providing happy and memorable experiences for our guests at Hacienda del Sol is of the utmost importance. But just as important is our dedication to community,” said Jeff Timan, Hacienda del Sol owner.  “We’re thankful Tucsonans have been so good to us which is why we give back as often as we can. Our efforts include participating in dozens of local fundraisers and charities, such as the Alzheimer’s Association. We’re glad to have contributed to our local Chapter and are excited about the upcoming Wine to Remember event on May 22nd.”

Hacienda del Sol is included in the National Registry of Historic Places in Arizona, and is pleased to be a member of Historic Hotels of America.
