The Woodmark at Sun City has proudly served the Sun City area for over 10 Exceptional years. In 2000 when deciding where to build their next senior living community, Woodmark Retirement Corporation (WRC), based in Bellevue, Washington, knew that the City of Volunteers in the Grand Canyon state was the place to be.

Being managed locally allows each community the ability to make adjustments, cater to their specific market, use local vendors, and sponsor local organizations such as the Alzheimer’s Association – Desert Southwest Chapter. WRC encourages their employees to get involved and make a difference. It is this philosophy that has allowed The Woodmark’s employees the time and resources to volunteer, support, participate and Co-Chair the West Valley Memory Walk for over 7 years and we will continue to “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” for as many years as it takes.

The Woodmark’s mission to enhance the lives of seniors through a demonstrated commitment to their total well-being is witnessed daily in the high quality, respected programs that enhance each resident’s life by offering choices and promoting independence. “This is done by treating each resident as an individual who is deserving of respect and care specific to their needs,” shared Robin Burr, Executive Director, “This is one of our Standards of Excellence that has been implemented since we opened. Being the first employee hired, I have been honored with the opportunity to personally hand pick my team, and what a difference that makes.”

We are honored to have a team of such longevity and are proud of their many successes. Since 2004, three Woodmark employees have received ALFA’s Shining Star Award. The most recent being in 2010 by Frankie Eklund, Community Life Director, who was awarded 2010 Red Carpet Shining Star Award for Innovative Program in Customer Service/Community Life. “Frankie is an example of what we all strive to provide; Exceptional Assisted Living and be; a committed long time employee. Frankie has been with me since we opened in 2000.” commented Robin Burr. “I am proud to say, most of my key staff is still the same or has been promoted from within.”

The Woodmark is recognized for Exceptional Assisted Living, as well as the innovation in developing a one-of-a-kind Memory “Assistance” Program. The Monarch Memory Assistance is a unique activity and social based program designed to enrich the lives of those in the beginning stages of memory loss who just need a helping hand and a friendly reminder. This program offers a structured environment as well as a secure place for those who are still very independent but need a safe and secure environment. This program is ideal for couples where-by one has memory impairment and the other does not. It is this unique apartment-style setting in a secured environment that allows the partner to feel free to come and go knowing their loved one is safe.

The onsite Memory Care S.P.A. (Specialized Personal Attention) was a result of the pursuit to care for the total well-being of those with moderate to severe memory loss due to Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, stroke related and other dementias. The activity program is flexible yet structured. The goal is to recreate memories, increase function and maintain stability as well as routine. Our full time Relaxation Specialist is one of the unique ways we accomplish this goal. With a spa suite the Relaxation Specialist offers sensory stimulation, gentle massage and aromatherapy to the residents or she has a mobile cart and can go to where ever the resident feels safe. The single story building with never ending pathways and circular floor plan allows residents to walk without becoming frustrated by running into a dead end. The built-in shadow boxes filled with personal mementos of their past, provide a beacon for the resident to find their way “Home”.

The Woodmark is a gracious worry-free life-style everyone deserves.
