Caring for people living with dementia requires the use of skills and techniques designed to safely support them. 


The need for professionals with expertise in dementia care is growing rapidly as the incidence of dementia increases. In response, our Chapter, in collaboration with Schoolcraft College, is pleased to offer our Dementia Care Certificate. Classes are interactive and provide practical learning that can be applied immediately. The certificate is open to family caregivers and professionals with interest in building their skills.

Classes are approved for:

  • Continuing education contact hours for nurses

  • Continuing education contact hours for social workers through the Michigan Social Work and Continuing Education Collaborative

Topics include:

  • Fundamentals of dementia
  • Making meaningful connections
  • Making the most of meal time
  • Understanding wandering
  • Caregiver stress
  • Dementia and family impact
  • Alzheimer's disease and intimacy
  • Diagnosis frontotemporal dementia
  • Driving and dementia
  • Care at the end of life
