A diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia is life changing and creates many questions. Knowing what to expect and connecting with others living with the disease can lessen the fear of the unknown, and will help those living with dementia and their support system or care partners, family and friends prepare for the future and live the best life for as long as possible.
Our West Michigan Social Engagement programs create a casual and friendly environment to facilitate social connections while assisting understanding of the diagnosis and providing information and discussion of local resources.
Early-Stage Social Engagement Group
Live a fuller life with dementia by taking part in our Early-Stage Social Engagement Group (ESSG) activities! ESSG celebrates living life with Alzheimer's together in community. The group features regularly scheduled outings all around West Michigan, such as the Grand Rapids Zoo, fine art theaters, festivals, museums, lunches and many other West Michigan attractions and eateries. ESSG is a safe, social environment for individuals living in the early stages of dementia and memory loss and their care partners to enjoy life even after a diagnosis of dementia.
Please note: assessment and registration is required prior to attending. For meeting time and locations, as well as registration, contact Denise Gibson at firstname.lastname@example.org or 616.459.7423.
Our Memory Cafés are a places where anyone with or concerned about memory loss, along with their family, friends or care partner can come together in a safe, supportive, comfortable and engaging environment to laugh, cry, learn and remain socially active. Held out in the community, it encourages acceptance and friendship for those traveling the same journey.
