Sinterklaas: An old Dutch Tradition in the Hudson Valley: 1-2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20. The tradition of Sinterklaas comes from the Netherlands, brought by Dutch settlers who arrived in Rhinebeck more than 300 years ago. Sinterklaas, the patron of children and sailors, finds a welcoming community in the Mid-Hudson Valley as we learn about the re-created story through the lens of modern-day America.
Come in from the Cold with Brooklyn Botanic Garden: 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11. Join us for a virtual visit to Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Steinhardt Conservatory. Your guides will take you on a special journey to explore plants that grow in the desert and tropical environments. Enjoy a lively conversation about:
- What is it like in the desert and rainforest? Perhaps you visited one of those places and can share your experience.
- Show us one of your houseplants! I bet it might have come from either a desert or tropical area.
- Many houseplants can be propagated! You can make more plants to share with friends.
