Why the Alzheimer's Association

Alzheimer’s is more than just memory loss — it is a progressive and fatal disease. Currently, more than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s and 11 million provide unpaid care for them. Locally, the disease continues to devastate our families, finances and future.

In Illinois, there are: 
 

• 230,000 people are living with Alzheimer’s. 
• 383,000 people who care for them.
• In 2021, these caregivers provided 483,000,000 hours of unpaid care valued at $8,806,000,000.

We are here to help. The Alzheimer's Association leads the way to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia — by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support. At the Illinois Chapter, we provide free education, support programs and services to individuals living with dementia, caregivers, community members and healthcare professionals.

	Reason to Hope is a powerful one-hour luncheon geared toward the business community in Chicago that raises critical awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. 	The Longest Day is the day with the most light — the summer solstice. 	Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the Alzheimer’s Association’s signature and the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
