Laura Eschelbach has been volunteering for the Alzheimer’s Association Illinois Chapter for the past seven years. Her personal connection to the Alzheimer's Association comes from watching her mother live with and ultimately pass away from dementia. She volunteers weekly in the Peoria office and often represents the Chapter at health fairs. She enjoys volunteering at Health Fairs because individuals stop by her booth to let her know that they have been personally helped by a program or service the Alzheimer’s Association offers, especially through the local Peoria office. Laura originally started looking for volunteer activities when she retired from accounting work in 2012 and signed up to volunteer with the Alzheimer’s Association after she attended the Peoria Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Laura also volunteers at the Crittenton Crisis Nursery, Trewyn School Peace Pals Reading Program and even donates monthly to the Red Cross Apheresis. Volunteering at the Peoria office is important to Laura because she believes that the Alzheimer’s Association will play a very important role in finding treatments and eventually a cure for this disease.
